About the Israeli Competition

Israel held their first concrete canoe competition on September 28, 2010 at Tamar Beach in the Sea of Galilee. The competition was organized by the Ariel University Center of Samaria and entries were restricted to architecture and industrial design students.

A team from Shenkar College won the competition. Second place went to a team from the Technion while a team from Ariel finished third. Each school could have as many as 8 team members but teams were limited to 4. There was no limitation on boat design and points were tallied based on the races alone.

The second Israeli National Concrete Canoe Competition (INCCC) was held in 2012 on Monfort Lake in Ma'allot where a team from the Shamoon College of Engineering (SCE) won the title. As a result, the rules were refined and the competition grew considerably.

Some schools field an international contingent. In 2014, for example, the Technion (Israeli Institute of Technology) formed a 17 person team consisting of members from Israel, Nepal, China, and Germany. The design, for their entry called "A Thousand Suns," was based on ancient drawings and optimized using modern design tools.
