ConcreteCanoe.org - "2009 NCCC Coverage" - links to official sites, conference qualifiers, racing venue, pre-national photos...  top picks and commentary for 2009 plus photos of boats, questions posed during oral presentations, race coverage, and commentary from the 2008 ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

For twenty three years, ASCE's National Concrete Canoe Competitions have provided a forum to showcase the versatility of concrete and the ingenuity of future engineers.

As reported by Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions in the Congressional Record, "The Concrete Canoe Competition provides college and university students an opportunity to use the engineering principles learned in the classroom, and apply them in a competitive environment where they further learn important team and project management skills."

"Sponsoring this event is an investment in the future.  It provides an opportunity for students to get hands-on, real-life experience in design and construction principles, as well as project management and team building," says Michael Shydlowski, Past President and CEO of Degussa Admixtures, Inc.

Questions regarding rule interpretations prior to the NCCC should be directed via email to the Committee on National Concrete Canoe Competitions (CNCCC).  The CNCCC is composed of eight volunteers associated with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).  These individuals have the primary responsibility of reviewing and establishing the rules for each year's competition and assisting students by providing clarifications of the rules.  At the regional level, the Committee assists the hosts and judges by supplying information.  At the national level, they not only assist the judges and the host school but run the events on race day.

All questions and answers will be broadcast to canoe@ftl.com unless a specific request is made for privacy.  Teams should join the list server by sending an email with a body of "subscribe canoe" or "subscribe canoe <your email address>."  For more information send email to the list server with body of "help."

Questions regarding national race qualifying procedures, including those from teams interested in participating as international entries, should be directed to the ASCE Student Services.  The current Coordinator of Student Services is Ms. Ping Wei.
